Ever been told there was a singing style you weren’t allowed to sing? Maybe an old, conservative voice teacher told you that you were going to damage your voice belting out your favorite grungey-rock tune. Or maybe you watched some “how to sing” YouTube videos where you were told the way your favorite artists were singing is “wrong.”
The solution? Either to buy more lessons (I’ve spent as much as $100/h with teachers like these) or to buy their CD full of “special” one size fits all exercises! Absolute BULL!!! I strongly believe that big names pushing these types of ideas online are are Brett Manning of “Singing Success”, Seth Riggs of Speech Level Singing, and Robert Lunte of “The Four Pillars of Singing” (themodernvocalist.com).
There is NO singing secret or special vocal exercise. There are NO “special voice “techniques,” postures, or tricks that need to be SOLD to you. Don’t let yourself get scammed! THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A DAMAGING OR “WRONG” VOCAL STYLE OR SOUND!
Have you heard of the 80/20 rule? 80% of outcome can be produced by 20% of the work. In the case of singing, that 20% is effective practice routines. And guess what? Learning to practice effectively is FREE.
